The MEER (Mechanical Equipment Enclosure Replacement) project involves removing the existing roof top mechanical enclosures and replacing them with new custom built air handling units. In addition to replacing very old mechanical equipment in difficult to access locations the new units will use chilled water from the central Ice Storage System. Most of these old systems had direct expansion cooling that was added over the years. It was never adequate and operated during the hours when cooling was needed. The Ice Storage System builds ice at night during periods of low electrical demand and lower rates and melts the ice during the day when electric demand and rates are higher.
